To celebrate Brogdale’s extensive collection of cherry trees, their now annual Hanami festival introduces visitors to the tradition of ‘hanami’ or cherry blossom viewing.
Offering a chance to experience this Japanese tradition, participants were given an introduction to the history of hanami in Japan, a tour of the collection of blossoms and a picnic, alongside a display of Japanese artefacts, a tea ceremony experience and taiko drumming and martial arts demonstrations.

A calligraphy workshop for students to learn more about writing Japanese characters, led by a specialist.

Foyle Obon Festival 2022
The annual Foyle Obon Festival welcomed the Hannari Japanese Dance group and Japanese storyteller, Masako Carey to the lineup, engaging audience members of all ages.
