An extension of the school’s lunchtime Japanese language and culture club, this exploration of Japanese culture offered the 109 pupils at Scout Road Academy the chance to experience Japanese traditions and cultural activities, through dance, music, costume and food: specifically traditional obon dance, tanabata, sampling festival food, taiko drumming, and wearing yukata.
The day ended with an invitation to parents to visit the school to watch the children perform a 'tanko bushi' dance (Coal Mine Song) together.

Japanese Calligraphy Workshop
A calligraphy workshop for students to learn more about writing Japanese characters, led by a specialist.

Foyle Obon Festival 2022
The annual Foyle Obon Festival welcomed the Hannari Japanese Dance group and Japanese storyteller, Masako Carey to the lineup, engaging audience members of all ages.
