The Kodosai event has been taking place in Basildon since 2011, featuring Japanese culture and martial arts performances. The first event attracted around 200 people and since then audiences have steadily grown.
For the fifth Kodosai event, this weekend of Japanese culture introduced audiences, including local school children, to a wide range of cultural activities and traditions, which included martial arts, dance and music, food, language, haiku, bonsai and for the first time, a kyudo (Japanese archery) display.

Japanese Calligraphy Workshop
A calligraphy workshop for students to learn more about writing Japanese characters, led by a specialist.

Minoru Nomata: Hands-on Learning Activities at the De La Warr Pavilion
Bespoke workshops for children, families and young people at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill.

Foyle Obon Festival 2022
The annual Foyle Obon Festival welcomed the Hannari Japanese Dance group and Japanese storyteller, Masako Carey to the lineup, engaging audience members of all ages.
