The JYC Blog
August 2025
Following the successful residential orientation at Queen Anne's School earlier on in the month, the Collective members were fortunate enough to attend their first Japan Lab held at the Embassy of Japan in London!
To start, the members got to take a close look around the Embassy's latest exhibition all about ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock printing), featuring work from artists based in the United Kingdom, before heading into the main ballroom, where they were given a presentation by Dipika, a member of the Embassy's staff.
The Collective also got the chance to meet young diplomats who currently work at the Embassy of Japan in a Q&A session, where they got to learn about some of the important work that the diplomats do and what a typical day in the life working at the embassy might be like.
After much sitting, talking, and listening, it was time to get up and moving with some yosakoi dance, led by Dipika! With naruko (small wooden clappers used in yosakoi dance) in hand, the members learned a simple yosakoi dance routine together with much fun and laughter! It was the perfect way to round off their day at the Embassy, and to round off the first month of the programme. Find out more about what the members thought about the session below.
