On 3 February, during a short visit to London, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike joined a special event with the Japan Society, kindly hosted by WTW. See photos from the event here.

The Japan Society’s collection of kamishibai, including both traditional folk tales and stories related to Japanese festivals, has expanded to include four new original titles! 

We are looking for a Chief Executive with strong leadership skills, proven fundraising experience and the vision and drive to develop the organisation as we stay relevant for existing members and broaden our reach.

May I take this opportunity to wish a very Happy New Year – Shin-nen akemashite omedetou gozaimasu – to all Japan Society members? We know that 2023 will be a demanding one, given all that is happening in geopolitics and economics, as was 2022, but we can take heart from the fact that last year Japan and the UK showed that in the face of danger and aggression our two countries stood closely together in defence of the same values and principles.

On Sunday 11 December, artist Aya Burbanks introduced participants to Nengajo, greeting cards sent during the New Year in Japan. See photos and some of the creations by participants on the day.

On Monday 5 December 2022, we were pleased to welcome members back to the Ballroom of the Japanese Embassy, by courtesy of the Japanese Ambassador. See photos from this festive occasion.

On 10 November 2022 we invited sixth form students back to Sixth Form Japan Day for the first full-day in-person event since 2019, which was a resounding success!
