In 2017, groups of children from local schools in the Cardiff area were invited to participate in workshops held by the Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival.
Led by manga artist, Asuka Bochanska Tanaka, children and young people learnt how to draw Japanese style anime characters and comics, and in a calligraphy workshop, led by calligrapher Yukiko Ayres, participants had the opportunity to learn how to write Japanese characters using the traditional calligraphy brush.
During the festival, young people also had to chance to experience premieres of Japanese animation films.
