JAEFF: Screening Of ‘A Page of Madness’

On the 91st anniversary of its theatrical release, JAEFF screened ‘A Page of Madness’ (Teinosuke Kinugasa, 1926) on 35mm with live narration from renowned benshi Tomoko Komura and traditional musical accompaniment from experienced musicians including Clive Bell and Slyvia Hallett. The screening was followed by a panel discussion of Japanese cinema experts and medical historian Professor Sonu Hamdasani.
The event helped to increase understanding of Japan by engaging young audiences with historical filmmaking practices, Japan’s avant-garde and experimental film genres, medical history and traditional music.
