The Scottish Society for Art History in partnership with the National Museum of Japanese History (Rekihaku), hosted the international ‘Scotland and Japan’ conference on 10-11 February 2022.
The conference was a hybrid event that took place in person at National Museums Scotland in Edinburgh and was live broadcast to remote audiences, both in the UK and Japan, via Zoom.
The conference brought together curators, academics, independent researchers, and practising artists, who delivered papers which explored cultural connections between the visual and material cultures of the two nations. It provided a platform for the dissemination of new research and discussion related to the shared art historical legacies of Scotland and Japan, past and present.
