The JYC Blog
January 2026
After a much needed break for the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Collective were back together for their first Catch-Up and Japan Lab sessions of the year! With only 3 months left of the programme and until their final event, the members gathered in their teams and began making preparations.
On 9 January - catch-up
Later in the month, the members met for their Saturday Japan Lab, in which they got to try ikebana (traditional Japanese flower arranging) for the first time! The workshop was led by Miyuki from Ohara School of Ikebana, who taught the young people some of the fundamental styles and techniques of this form of flower-arranging. The members were quick to pick up the skills taught by Miyuki-san, and created beautiful displays using the flowers they were provided.
After a quick break, it was time to focus on event planning. The members were divided into four teams (Programme Planning, Activities, Marketing, and Design), each with their own different roles and responsibilites. It was impressive to see how well the young people worked together thoughtfully discussing different ideas in their teams, highlighting how much they had really developed and honed their team-work and communication skills throughout the past 6 months.
We are excited to share more details about the final event coming soon - stay tuned to find out more!
Otsukare sama deshita, JYC, as always!
