In January, February, and March 2026 we hosted a series of lectures that explored the global evolution of the samurai with Professor Oleg Benesch, human rights challenges with Dr Sanae Fujita, and a reconsideration of the samurai by Dr Rosina Buckland, lead curator of the British Museum’s landmark exhibition.

In July, August and September 2025 we showcased some highly engaging lectures that explored the Kansai art scene, testimonies of atomic bomb survivors, and how far-right movements have evolved in 21st-century Japan. . 

In April, May, and June 2025, we held a fascinating series of lectures that explored the significance of Japanese ukiyo-e prints, how Japanese art was collected and presented in the UK, and the history and evolution of the Japanese tea ceremony.

In January, February and March 2025, we presented a captivating lecture series that explored various aspects of Japanese culture, including the significance of Japanese illustrated books, the evolution of the kimono, and uncovered hidden gems of rural Japan.

We are excited to unveil our plans for 2025, featuring a dynamic array of events spanning business, arts and culture, contemporary issues, and special occasions.

In October, November and December 2024, we featured an engaging line-up, exploring topics such as key female figures in Japanese history, sexuality and gender in the Japanese media during the LGBT Boom, and the criminalisation of older people in Japan.

We are delighted to announce that Rt Hon Greg Clark has been appointed as the new Chair of The Japan Society, effective from 1 January 2025.
